BETTER THAN COFFEE
1.Tony Stark used to think that he loved coffee more than anything.
After all, coffee was the most important drink (and sometimes food) of the day. But lately he had been thinking that he might love something, or rather someone, even more than coffee.
Steve Rogers was unfairly handsome, kind and surprisingly funny and Tony just couldn’t help himself.
He fell hard.
Unfortunately Steve had one major flaw - he rarely drank coffee.
Tony had been absolutely horrified the first time he saw Steve walking past the coffee maker and straight to the tea pot, the monstrosity that Bruce kept bringing back to the kitchen.
“What are you doing?”
“Umm”, Steve said, looking a bit baffled, “drinking tea?”
Tony admitted afterwards, that throwing his hands in the air and groaning loudly was maybe a bit extreme, but really? Tea, at 7 am?
The almost perfect Steve was driving him crazy.
2.“Tony, where are you taking me?”
“It’s a surprise.”
“I hate surprises.”
“Don’t be like that, you love them!”
Steve didn’t look too happy but he followed Tony anyway.
It was December in New York and it was freezing. Usually Tony hated the cold and the snow but right now he was on a mission.
He decided that he had to take Steve to his favorite coffee shop to see if the super soldier actually appreciated a quality drink or not. And if he didn’t… Well that might be a deal breaker.
Not that Steve knew there was a deal, of course not. Nobody knew about Tony’s ridiculous feelings (except maybe Natasha but she knew everything) and he was fine with it.
But if Steve didn’t like his favorite coffee shop or the perfectly blended heaven they served, Tony could quit his pining once and for all.
Simple enough, right?
3.Since Steve wasn’t an idiot, he understood that this was somehow very important to Tony and who was he to deny anything from him?
Come to think of it, Steve never refused anything from Tony.
Sure Natasha had seen that and was constantly raising her eyebrows at him but Steve didn’t think it was that big of a deal. He didn’t actually favor Tony, he just liked making him happy.
And that’s why he was freezing outside in the snow at 8 pm, following Tony somewhere.
“You’ve been hanging around with Brucie too much”, Tony mumbled while walking, “drinking tea in the morning… blasphemy.”
Steve couldn’t help but laugh.
“All this because I drank a cup of tea?”
“Listen to yourself!
A cup of tea, you sound so British it's disgusting.”
Steve looked at the other man and all he could think was how badly he wanted to kiss him.
4.“I was right, wasn’t I?”
Tony was grinning happily, holding his extra large cup in his hands.
Steve took a sip of his drink and shrugged.
“I guess it’s okay.”
Tony’s face fell and then he was throwing his hands in the air again.
“Fine! I give up! I can’t win with you. If you don’t like it, there’s no future for us.”
Steve almost dropped his regular sized cup and stared at Tony wide-eyed.
“What?”
“I mean… Who doesn’t… Oh you know what I mean!”
There was a hint of pink in Tony’s cheeks.
“You took me here to see… if we could have a future?” Steve repeated slowly.
“No, I took you here to see if you actually liked a quality coffee or not”, Tony said stubbornly, “which, to be fair, is kind of a big deal so -”
Steve dropped his cup and then he kissed Tony.
5.Steve took Tony by surprise but he responded quickly. He threw his coffee to the ground and grabbed Steve’s jacket, bringing him as close as possible.
They were kissing in the snow and it was like the world’s most used cliché but Tony loved every second of it. Steve tasted like Steve but also like happiness and… chocolate?
Tony pushed back and looked at Steve sternly.
“I took you to my favorite coffee shop and you ordered
hot chocolate?”
Steve took a deep breath but smiled.
“Tony, it is 8 pm. If I drink coffee now I’m not going to sleep.”
“Oh.”
“And besides”, Steve continued and placed a small kiss on Tony’s cheek, “I like your coffee better.”
Tony laughed.
“Sweet talker.”
“I’m not”, Steve said honestly, “but coffee just... isn’t my favorite thing in the world.”
Tony looked Steve in the eyes and smiled brightly.
Not mine either.
